What Teachers Are Saying After Their First Quest

We've been asking teachers a simple question after their first GPTQuest assignment. What surprised you?

The answers cluster around three patterns.

My quietest student said the most. AI dialogue lowers the social cost of speaking up. Students who rarely volunteer in class will write paragraphs to a fictional door or song writing elf.

They asked better questions than I expected. When the AI is on the other side of the conversation, students start interrogating it. They notice when it's wrong, and they ask why.

They wanted to keep going. Engagement isn't a feature we built in. It's a side effect of giving students AI conversations that feel meaningful.

We're not surprised by these patterns anymore, but we still find them encouraging. The thing teachers worry about with AI in the classroom (passive use, surface engagement) flips when the AI is part of a story instead of an answer machine.
